Update at 12:00 pm ET: Or at least you could. This iMac is currently unavailable, but check back because Amazon has been known to renegotiate deals.
Every now and then a Mac sale makes you rub your eyes, think, and refresh a web page to make sure it’s real. This one is real, okay. Amazon sells the iMac M1 for $999.99 and this model usually sells for $1499 so you save about $500.
There’s a catch to this deal: The iMac being sold is pink—more specifically, the front bezel, stand, mouse, and keyboard are pink, while the back is red. But that seems like a minor compromise to get a lot on an iMac with an M1 processor, 8-core GPU, and 8GB of storage. In addition, it has a 256 GB SSD, which is not enough to store files, but you can connect an external drive or use iCloud.
In my June 2021 iMac review, I wrote, “If you have an older 21.5-inch iMac and are looking to upgrade, the 24-inch model is an attractive product. Not only do you get a speed boost over an Intel-based iMac, you can ditch old technology for exciting new technology in Apple’s system-on-a-chip.” The iMac in my review was the pink and red model, and it pairs brilliantly with the colors.
Rumor has it that Apple will release a new iMac with the M3 chip, but not until the second half of the year. The M1 in iMac is an excellent chip that delivers the performance most users need for everyday tasks and consumer-grade creative work such as iMovie projects, GarageBand jobs, and more.
