Latest World News: Taliban reject Iran’s claim that ISIL leaders were sent to Afghan

Foreign Ministry spokesperson calls on Tehran to share all intelligence in its possession so Taliban forces can act.

The Taliban have rejected a claim by Iran’s foreign minister that leaders of the armed group ISIL (ISIS) had been sent to Afghanistan.

If Iran has information that Daesh members have been transferred to Afghanistan, we hope they will share it so that Afghan security forces can take necessary action, Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi said on Twitter on Saturday, using a common Arabic name for the ISIL group.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan meticulously fought Daesh during and after the end of the occupation, he added.

Balkhi also urged Iranian authorities to take a constructive stance on economic, political and social issues.

Moreover, Balkhi claimed that the Taliban government would not allow anyone to threaten the country’s security or use our territory against others.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian told state television in an interview last week that ISIL leaders had been sent to Afghanistan from Iraq, Syria and Libya in recent months. This is one of the challenges facing the Taliban, he added.

Affiliated with the Islamic State of ISIL in Khorasan province, the ISKP (I-K) poses the biggest threat to the Taliban authorities, claiming responsibility for several attacks.

Hundreds of people have been killed and injured, including foreigners and members of the minority Hazara community, in attacks carried out by the ISKP in an effort to undermine the Taliban government.

The armed group has also killed Taliban administration officials, including the governor of northern Balkh province in an attack on his office in March and the acting governor of northern Badakhshan province this month.

The Taliban administration launched a campaign of repression against ISKP members, raiding its hideouts in several provinces.
