T-Mobile remains king of 5G speeds, availability

Ookla has released its latest third-quarter results in its battle for dominance among the top US carriers. If you follow these reports that are published every quarter, T Mobile has little competition in the overall speed department. The same was true in the third quarter, when T-Mobile was well ahead of Verizon and AT&T.

According to Ookla testing, T-Mobile users see an average download speed of 116Mbps, while Verizon and AT&T are closer to 58Mbps. That’s double that of T-Mobile, which is definitely something to brag about. T-Mobile also had the highest median download speed of almost 11Mbps, compared to 8.3Mbps for Verizon and 7.5Mbps for AT&T. In 5G performance, T-Mobile succeeded at nearly 200Mbps, while Verizon did 120Mbps and AT&T hit 81Mbps.

However, it’s not just about speed. For those interested in “Persistence,” which Ookla refers to as performance consistency, T-Mobile also won in this category with a score of 84.4%. Verizon and AT&T nearly matched with 79.6% and 79.4%. Yes, and T-Mobile also won in the 5G Affordability category by a wide margin, scoring 69.2% (good) compared to AT&T’s 59.8% and Verizon’s 32%.

Takeaway? If you care about 5G speed and availability, maybe T-Mobile is worth a try? I must say that we all live in different areas, and what works for one person may not work for another. You should use what works best for you, so if you see that AT&T doesn’t have the best numbers on these reports, but their service is serving you well, then who cares what Ookla says. And if you’re a T-Mobile fan and you’re wiping this report off Verizon and AT&T customers, that’s very sad.
