Rex, 59, who was an architect, once took time off from work to install a concrete-lined vault in his family’s Long Island home, a former colleague told the New York Post. It would also have allowed him to use materials like duct tape and hessian sacks, which were found at the crime scene. Investigators had been keeping tabs on Rex’s home since that spring, it was reported.
Rex was nabbed by undercover cops as he strolled down a sidewalk in Midtown on Thursday night, July 13. Rex had worked in Midtown for several years at his own company, RH Architecture. He is on suicide watch at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility. He pleaded not guilty to three counts of first degree murder and other counts.
Rex’s arrest is linked to the Gilgo Four, referring to the four women whose bodies were found within days of each other in 2010. The women in question were 24-year-old Melissa Barthelemy, 22-year-old Megan Waterman, 27-year-old Amber Lynn Costello and 25-year-old Maureen Brainard-Barnes.
