There’s a long-running debate among pop culture enthusiasts over which of Hollywood’s leading Chris (Pine, Pratt, hemsworthOr Evans) is superior. But Pratt, who notably pivoted from goofy Parks and recreation star of the Marvel superhero/Arnold Schwarzenegger son-in-law, is almost certainly the most controversial, or at least the most vocally God-fearing.

Pratt – who you may recall once said in an MTV Movie Awards acceptance speech that “God is real and God loves you“-address the backlash he had for his religious beliefs on the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 red carpet last week.

“It’s nothing new, you know?” pratt said page 6. “It’s like that, nothing new. Two thousand years ago they hated him too,” he added, referring to Jesus Christ.

“If I was of this world, they would love me like that, but as it is, I chose to step out of this world. This is John 15:18 to 20,” Pratt also said the outlet, explaining that he was quoting a Bible verse.

Pratt, who has also been criticized for his seemingly republican politics over the years, said Squire in 2012 that he converted to Christianity when he was a teenager after a man stopped him and some friends as they went to buy alcohol. “He said to me, ‘I quit because Jesus told me to stop and talk to you. He said to tell you that you’re destined for great things,'” Pratt told the magazine at “My friends came out and I was like, ‘Hey, I’m going to go with this guy.’ I gave my soul to Jesus in two days.
