Latest Kerala Local News: 2,878 complaints settled at ‘Karuthalum Kaithangum’ adalat i

The adalat Karuthalum Kaithangum organized by the Democratic Left Front government on its second anniversary in six taluks in Alappuzha settled 2,878 complaints.

No less than 5,707 complaints were received during the adalats held in May and June this year. A follow-up meeting was held at the District Collector here on Monday. In attendance were Agriculture Minister P. Prasad, Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian, District Collector Haritha V. Kumar and other officials.

The officials said that some of the complaints received at the taluk level adalats which had not been investigated were discussed at the meeting. Ministers noted that a total of 1,928 complaints were being reviewed by various ministries for action.

Officials said rice farmers in the Vezhathar rice polder in upper Kuttanad who suffered crop losses in the floods would soon receive their insurance claim. Waterlogging had destroyed paddy on 43.78 hectares in Vezhathar. Although the Ministry of Agriculture has set 15.3 crores as the amount of the claim, it is waiting for the Ministries of Finance to agree to distribute the compensation. Mr. Cherian ordered the officials to obtain the necessary sanction from the Ministry of Finance and distribute the amount in 30 days. The Minister also sanctioned an amount of 13,500 as crop loss compensation to Changapadam farmers in Mulakuzha.

Mr. Prasad asked officials to provide a house for a disabled woman from Kadakkarappally near Cherthala as part of the LIFE (Livelihood Inclusion and Financial Empowerment) mission.

Authorities previously rejected 901 complaints filed with Karuthalum Kaithangum adalats for various reasons. A good majority of the complaints examined during the adalats were related to natural disasters, crop insurance, the LIFE mission, etc.
