Top Gun: Maverick continues to soar.

The decades-awaited sequel grossed $679 million in North America, as Variety reports, making it the sixth highest-grossing film of all time at the domestic box office. marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War, with $678.8 million in 2018, was therefore relegated to seventh place. Forbes writing Top Gun: Maverick (which stands at $1.37 billion worldwide) is expected to gross $5.44 million this weekend to reach a new total of $683 million. The four highest-grossing films at the US box office are those of 2015 Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens ($936 million), 2019 Avengers: Endgame ($858.3 million), last December Spider-Man: No Coming Home ($804.7 million) and those of 2009 Avatar with $760 million.
