Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appears on our screens daily as he talks to world leaders and fights for his country following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine late last month.

Now, the sitcom that kicked off the former comedian and actor’s political career is returning to streaming giant Netflix.

The company announced the news on Wednesday, saying they were giving the people what they want.

“The 2015 satirical comedy series stars Volodymyr Zelenskyy playing a teacher who unexpectedly becomes president after a video of him complaining about corruption suddenly goes viral.”

The series didn’t just make Mr Zelenskyy a star, it eventually served as the springboard for his real-life presidential campaign.

In April 2019, within a month of the show’s finale, the comedian-turned-politician was elected Ukraine’s president.

The show, which has English subtitles, first showed on the streaming site in the US from 2017 to 2021.

There’s no word yet on whether the series will also be showing on Netflix in Australia.

Prior to his presidency, Mr Zelenskyy was also the voice of Paddington Bear in the Ukrainian versions of Paddington and Paddington 2.

In a promotional video for Paddington 2, Mr Zelenskyy introduces himself in between recording vocals for the bear.

“Hello to my darling friends. I, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will lend my voice to the wonderful, charismatic, friendly bear Paddington,” he says.

Paddington [is a film] you can go to see with your whole family, and everyone will enjoy it regardless of your age.

“You know you will definitely walk out of the film in a fantastic mood.”

Hugh Bonneville, who stars in both Paddington and Paddington 2, reacted with delight to the news when it emerged via social media last month.

“Until today I had no idea who provided the voice of Paddington Bear in Ukraine,” he tweeted.

“Speaking for myself, thank you, President Zelenskiy.”

No Time To Die actor Ben Whishaw voices Paddington in the English-language versions of both films.
