Frequently Asked Questions about Refurbished Apple Certified Store
What is the difference between an Apple Certified Refurbished Store and an Apple Store?
The Apple Certified Refurbished store sells used products that have been returned to the company. Apple repairs and tests these products to ensure they are as good as new. However, the Apple store only sells new products, never has been opened and used.
Oddly enough, finding a certified refurbished Apple store is not that easy. On Apple.com, scroll to the very bottom of the page where you will find a directory of sites. In the Apple Store, you’ll find a “Refurbished and Sale” link. (This link will take you there.)
What does “certified repair” mean?
Items in an Apple Certified Refurbished Store are products that have been purchased and returned by other customers. Apple puts these products through what it calls a “strict refurbishment process” before they hit the virtual shelves.
Apple says every product is thoroughly tested and any problematic hardware components are replaced. The exceptions are Apple Watch and Apple Pencil: if these items need new parts, they are not put up for sale.
Each product is quality tested and cleaned, tested and repackaged with full documentation, cables and everything else that normally comes with this device. These products are almost like new.
What is the warranty for a refurbished Apple certified product?
Apple provides a one-year standard limited warranty. Learn more about Apple’s hardware warranty.
Is AppleCare available for certified refurbished Apple products?
Apple Care is available. For an additional fee, you can get two or three years of coverage and support. Read our guide to AppleCare for more information.
What products are available?
Since these are refurbished products, the stock in this store is dependent on what was returned to Apple. Because of this, it is quite possible that the store will not have the model you need. Apple might not have a certain product model one day, and then they might suddenly have limited stock with no announcement the next day. Then, once that batch is sold out, it will become unavailable again until Apple stocks up again.
The Apple Certified Refurbished store stocks all of Apple’s major product lines: Macs, iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, HomePods, iPods, and Apple TVs. There is also a “Refurbished Accessories” section.
When shopping in this store, keep an eye on the release dates of the product, which are indicated in the description of each product. Apple often sells older models. You can find refurbished models of the current product line, but they tend to sell out quickly, so act fast.
