Apple doesn’t often attend major industry events like CES or E3. The most valuable company in the world holds its events, thank you very much. Several times a year, Apple invites the press and industry professionals to the cinema (or computer screen) to learn all about its latest products and services. Apple calls these events “Special Events” and streams them online to millions of fans.
Even in years like 2020 and 2021, there’s nothing stopping Apple from creating and launching new products at a series of events. There were four such events in 2021: the spring event on April 20, WWDC on June 7, the iPhone launch event on September 14, and the Mac launch on October 18. In 2020, we even had a side event in November.
So far, Apple has held two events in 2022. The first was the Spring Apple Event Peak Performance on March 8, which featured the new iPhone SE, iPad Air, Mac Studio, and Studio Display. Apple’s second event in 2022 was the main WWDC event, which featured macOS Ventura, iOS 16, iPadOS 16, MacBook Air M2, and MacBook Pro M2.
Stay tuned for WWDC announcements by watching the event stream below:
Read on to find out what events and new product launches Apple might have in store before the end of 2022.
When is the next Apple event?
- iPhone 14 event in September – date to be confirmed
What’s Happening on Apple Keynote?
Apple used to host live events where the company would unveil its latest products and plans during a keynote speech to a large crowd.
Since the pandemic, Apple has been reluctant to invite people to events, but is making an equal impact by inviting everyone to join the stream online.
Apple typically hosts four such events per year, but some years there will be no spring event and other years Apple will skip the October event. Based on previous years, you can expect an Apple year to look something like this:
- March/April (often includes iPad)
- June (WWDC – mostly software, sometimes high-end/professional hardware)
- September (iPhone and Apple Watch)
- October (iPad and consumer-facing Macs)
What time does the next Apple event start?
Apple events typically start at 10:00 am at Apple headquarters in California, which is 1:00 pm ET and 6:00 pm UK time..
Here’s what that means in the countries where most of our readers live:
- USA: 10:00 AM (PST/PDT), 11:00 AM (MST/MDT), Noon (CST/CDT), 1:00 PM (EST/EDT).
- Canada: as above and 2:00 pm (AST/ADT).
- United Kingdom: at 18:00 (GMT/BST)
- Europe: at 19:00 (CET/CEST)
- India: at 22:30 (IST).
- Australia: Next day at 1:00 AM (AWST/AWDT), 2:30 AM (ACST/ACDT), 3:00 AM (AEST/AEDT).
- New Zealand: next day at 5am (NZST/NZDT)
Apple events typically last one to two hours.
September 2022 iPhone Event
- Most likely Tuesday, September 13, or Wednesday, September 14.
Who knows what fall 2022 might bring, but Apple has released a new iPhone in September just about every year for the last decade, so a new iPhone will almost certainly arrive in September.
2020 was an exception to this rule – the iPhone was launched in October, but the company still held the September event. Apple clearly likes to host September events.
Based on that, if you want to give a possible iPhone launch date – or at least a September event – based on the dates Apple has held in previous September events, we predict Tuesday, September 13 or Wednesday, September 14, 2022.
- 2021: Tuesday 14 September
- 2020: Tuesday, September 15 (not for iPhone)
- 2019: Tuesday 10 September
- 2018: Wednesday 12 September.
- 2017: Tuesday 12 September
- 2016: Wednesday 7 September
- 2015: Wednesday 9 September
- 2014: Tuesday 9 September
- 2013: Tuesday 10 September
- 2012: Wednesday 12 September
What will Apple unveil at the September 2022 event?
- The iPhone 14 seems like a win-win. In 2022, the lineup is expected to consist of two medium-sized iPhones and two large iPhones. There will apparently be no mini-iPhone in 2022.
- The Apple Watch 8 is also likely to be released. Perhaps in 2022 we will see a redesign of the Apple Watch, which was rumored to be released in 2021 but never appeared. Read: Why the Apple Watch 7 doesn’t live up to the leaks: Prosser’s conspiracy theory.
- Apple released the new AirPods in October 2021, but rumor has it that new AirPods Pro will arrive in 2022. An iPhone event seems the most likely.
Mac Event October 2022
- Tuesday 12 October 2022 – Predicted
In October 2020, Apple introduced the iPhone 12. It was an unusual year, and usually the iPhone would have been released in September. October is usually the month when Apple announces new Macs and new iPads.
Want to know what date to write down for 2022? The October events of the past happened (or didn’t happen) on the following dates, so we expect an event on either Tuesday 12th or Wednesday 13th October.
- 2021: Monday 18 October
- 2020: Tuesday 12 October
- 2019: No events
- 2018: Tuesday 30 October
- 2017: No events
- 2016: Thursday 27 October
- 2015: No events
- 2014: Thursday 16 October
- 2013: Tuesday 22 October
- 2012: Tuesday 23 October
- 2011: Tuesday 4 October
What will Apple release in October 2022?
- November 2022 will mark exactly two years since the first Mac M1 was introduced, and Apple has said it will complete the Mac transition from Intel to its own silicon within two years. We’re hoping Apple will launch M-series chips on all of its Macs, but if that doesn’t happen by then, you can be sure to see them at this fall event.
We are still waiting:
- New iMac Pro. Apple has discontinued the 27-inch iMac model (at least for now), but there are a lot of rumors that a new iMac Pro is coming. Many will be hoping for an iMac Pro with the M1 Ultra at WWDC.
- Apple will no doubt stop updating the Mac Pro – as long as it keeps it in the lineup. The Mac Pro needs to be tuned and updated if it is to meet the requirements of the market for which it is intended. Plus, it should outperform the already impressive Mac Studio with the M1 Ultra. We can’t wait to see what Apple has in store for the Mac Pro in 2022.
- The release of Mac Studio makes the future of the remaining Intel Mac mini uncertain, but it’s still possible that Apple will replace the Intel Mac mini version with a Mac mini based on the M1 Pro or M1 Max. If not, the M2 Mac mini is expected by the end of the year.
- At this event, we may also see the iPad Pro get the M2 chip, although we expect to see it on a Mac first. Read about the 2022 iPad Pro.
Spring 2023 Event
We don’t know when Apple will hold its first event in 2023, but here’s when the last ten spring events took place:
- 2022: Tuesday, March 8 (virtual event)
- 2021: Tuesday 20 April (virtual event)
- 2020: No March event due to COVID-19 lockdown, but iPhone SE released April 24th.
- 2019: Monday 25 March.
- 2018: Tuesday 27 March
- 2017: No March event
- 2016: Monday 21 March
- 2015: Monday 9 March
- 2014: No March event
- 2013: No March event
- 2012: Wednesday 7 March
- 2011: Wednesday 2 March
- 2010: Thursday, April 8 (there was also a January event in the same year)
What will Apple release in Spring 2023?
We’ll be able to better predict what will happen in the spring of 2023 when we find out that Apple won’t launch in the fall or 2022, but new iPads are generally a win-win choice and maybe something music or TV related.
WWDC 2023 event
It’s safe to say that WWDC23 will take place in early June 2023. With the exception of 2020, the conference is held in the first week of June, with one or two exceptions. Here are the dates when WWDC kicked off in previous years. The event lasts a week, and the keynote is always held on a Monday.
Here’s when the last ten WWDC events took place:
- WWDC 2022: June 6-10
- WWDC 2021: June 7-11
- WWDC 2020: June 22-26
- WWDC 2019: June 3-7
- WWDC 2018: June 4-8
- WWDC 2017: June 5-9
- WWDC 2016: June 13-17
- WWDC 2015: June 8-12
- WWDC 2014: June 2-6
- WWDC 2013: June 10-14
- WWDC 2012: June 11-15
What will Apple present at WWDC23?
Apple always introduces its new operating systems at WWDC, which means: iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14, watchOS 10 and tvOS 17.
New hardware also occasionally shows up at WWDC, and it’s usually what developers want, namely “Pro” Mac models. However, it was the new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models that were announced at WWDC 2022.
