Dungeons and Dragons has been around since the 1970s, but it may never have been as popular as it is today. The game has seen a significant increase in popularity with D&D games are now regularly streamed online, and played by some big names. Now a new Dungeons and Dragons film, Honor among thieves, is set to capitalize on the game’s recent success, and one person we think will be first in line to see it is a certain Mr. Vin Diesel.
While Vin Diesel is one of Hollywood’s biggest action stars, many of his fans will know that he’s also a big nerd. He’s never made a secret of his love for Dungeons & Dragons, but it’s his fast furious co-star Michelle Rodriguez who is actually in the D&D movie. She recently spoke with HEY about the first time she met Diesel, and learned right away what a huge D&D fan he was. She explained…
It’s a slippery slope that all Dungeons & Dragons fans tend to fall into. If you enter the game, you’ll end up with a closet full of stuff. You will end up with so many books, maps, grids and tiny characters. And then you need the paint to paint the characters. And of course, let’s not forget the dice. You can never have too many dice, and trust me, people have tried.
Whereas Vin Diesel has never hidden his love for D&Dthere are probably a lot of people who aren’t aware of his love for the game. If you’re just a passing Diesel fan, someone who loves Fast and Furious movies or Riddick movies and moving on, there would be no reason to know that he is actually a huge geek. He is not the only one. Joe Manganiello founded a streetwear line inspired by the game. Manganiello himself had tried to make a D&D movie before this effort begins to move forward.
As a D&D fan myself, I can’t wait to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Thieves. The film has an incredible cast including Michelle Rodriguez, Chris Pine, and more, and it includes some of the The most iconic D&D creatures seen in the first trailer. But beyond that, it seems to have matched the tone of most current D&D games perfectly, in that it seems to try to be a serious fantasy adventure, unable to avoid being a bit silly. It’s real Dungeons & Dragons. Vin Diesel understands.
