According to the Adimaly police, the victim Elamplakkal Vijayaraj, 43, and two of his nephews were traveling by car when the accused Vadakethil Binoo47 year old, standing at the side of the road, signals the vehicle to stop.
Victim Vijayaraj got out of the car and an argument ensued over Rs 15,000 he is supposed to pay the accused for the wood he provided. Later, Biju drew a sickle which he had hidden in his clothes and threw the weapon at Vijayaraj who, in the process of repelling the attack with his right hand, suffered serious injuries to his right palm, Adimaly SI Siju Jacob said.
Cops said the victim’s right palm almost detached from his forearm and he was rushed to Adimaly Taluk Hospital. Later, Vijayaraj was transferred to a private hospital in Kochi where his palm was joined in an operation.
The victim’s nephews Aneesh and Arun who were with him said there were two women with the accused at the time of the incident and no one came forward to help them after the attack.
Around 11 a.m. on Monday, the accused Binu was arrested by the cops near the area where the incident took place and he admitted to having committed the crime. He was slapped with various charges, including attempted murder, and will face trial in Adimaly Magistrate’s Court, cops said.
