As happy as one may be to be hailing her status as a global star, I wish PC’s project choices were more up to date than a stale formula, Sukanya Verma sighs.

Gimme Priyanka Chopra Jonas beating on you Cheeseball Action Series about being miserable in a silly, cheesy love story that’s long gone.

As happy as one might be to cheer her status as a global star, I wish PC’s project picks were more up to date than a stale formula.

Much like those hackneyed Christmas love stories that flood Netflix this or that time of year modern love Episode that would take last place in a ranking of best to worst episodes, love again can hardly shake the monotony in the title.

This remake of the German drama takes place in, yawn, New York City SMS for you follows the illustrator Mira Ray (Priyanka) who struggles to move on after the untimely death of her boyfriend.

She’s the kind of doe-eyed, sweet girl that her little sister (Sofia Barclay) arranges dates for and fast-food shop owners name their burgers after her.

Enter Brit Rob Burns (Sam Heughan), a music reviewer assigned a work phone, and the profile of ballad queen Celine Dion.

Coincidence comes when Mira’s love messages for her late boyfriend end up on Rob’s new device.

Emotional romances like message in a bottle And PS I Love You have adequately covered that premise, however love again‘s superficial passions don’t even try to live up to any emotional expectations.

Instead, Mira texts things like, “I’d do anything to be naked with you right now, in oblivion.” Not surprisingly, it immediately catches Rob’s attention.

When he is dumped by his fiancée a week before the wedding, dating is the last thing on his mind until The Last Word on Love and Loss decides to step in and play the fairy godmother.

The voice of heartbreaking chartbusters like My heart will go on because you loved me, now it all comes back to me And All aloneCeline Dion acts as Rob’s self-proclaimed love guru, and her interview sessions end up acting like therapy.

Clichés are okay when treated with wit and charm, however love againThey’re too busy ticking off the usual stereotypes – gay co-worker, curly-haired know-it-all, gregarious, sister… – and miss every opportunity to have fun with Celine Dion’s diva or Nick Jonas in a cameo as a PC disaster date.

For reasons of humor, Mira mistakes the singer Seal for an animal.

For the sake of wisdom, the characters narrate lines as if love had a plan for each and every one of us or love is a mystery.

To create a connection, the characters connect via Air Jordans (better watch Ben Affleck’s film about the origins of the sneaker on Amazon Prime Video this week).

In conflicts, it’s the age-old criticism: you lied to me.

Everyone knows where this is going, except for Priyanka and Sam’s chemistry-free reunion.

Love? Not as much. Once again? As a matter of fact.
