Kevin Feige Reveals Marvel Studios’ “Secret” Formula

Kevin Feige spoke on the real “secret” from the MCU in a recent interview. During an appearance on The Movie Industry Podcast with Jason E. Squire, the marvel studios the president talked about what makes this franchise so successful. While there may be a Fort Knox-level secret when it comes to plot points and spoilers, the real “secret” people can search is a bit disappointing. Feige argues that “there are no secrets”, and if there is, it’s just about making these movies something people hold dear. This strategy seems to be working so far. Apart from Avatar: The Way of the Water and Top Gun: Maverick, it is difficult for many films to get a large audience like this during their theatrical tour.

“The honest truth, which isn’t as exciting, but you get the scoop on this podcast and I’ll give it to you. There are no secrets,” Feige revealed. “There are secrets in terms of stories, spoilers, and things like that, but if there was a formula, because people have been asking for a very long time, ‘What’s the formula?’ and the truth is that there is none.”

“The secret that is shared between successful organizations, storytellers and filmmakers is just a tremendous amount of hard work,” he added. “And the only thing that can fuel that hard work is passion. And luckily that’s what we at Marvel Studios have in spades. I always say if we weren’t there to make the movies , we’d be the first to buy tickets in advance, or I used to say line up around the block to go see them.”

What’s the plan for the MCU going forward?

Speaking to MTV News’ Josh Horowitz, the Marvel Studios president explained why fans are waiting for Phases 5 and 6 to Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.

“The truth is, when we were doing Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3, there were fewer projects over more years. They were smaller projects and individual character stories, and it felt appropriate at that point, that after two or three years that it took for a phase, we would make an Avengers movie,” Feige told MTV News. “As [Phase] 4, 5 and 6 were coming together, there are more projects in fewer years – because of all the amazing things we’re now allowed to do on Disney+ and get characters from Fox, Fantastic Four and Deadpool – that it was like, certainly after Infinity War and Endgame, that we thought the Avengers movies weren’t plugs.

He continued, “So many of our movies now – Multiverse of Madness, what you’re about to see in [Ant-Man and the Wasp] Quantumania, all of our great team-up movies introducing great parts of mythology – and that avengers movies really should be the crowning glory of a saga, what we really wanted to lay the groundwork for today is to say, “We’re currently in the middle of the multiverse saga, which will culminate in two avengers movies.'”
