Google has announced several updates for Google Maps users this week, both on mobile and desktop platforms. For those who are waiting for quick directions, I promise it will come.

Google first detailed the feature in February, allowing you to check the progress of your trip on your lock screen or route overview. Quick guides for walking, cycling, and driving modes on both Android and iOS will start rolling out this month, according to Google. This is wonderful news.

Google’s new AI-powered immersive view, first unveiled during Google I/O last month, will also roll out to four new cities: Amsterdam, Dublin, Florence and Venice. It won’t help US residents much, but if you’re planning a trip, it’s good. Google’s Immersive View also supports the 500 iconic attractions currently around the world.

From desktop users, Google has heard complaints about the organization of the places people want to go. That’s why Google created “Recent” on the desktop, automatically highlighting the places you’ve explored on the left side of the screen when you open Maps. With this update (coming next month), Google will save places in your recent notes even after you close the Google Maps window. This means you will no longer lose your trip planning progress.
