Gal Gadot says she feels empowered to focus on telling other stories after Wonder Woman 3 was canceled. Asked about her immediate future beyond the DCEU in the new issue of Total Film Reviewwhich hits newsstands Thursday, June 22, the cover star described it as “a chapter” she’s currently going through.
“For me to start and develop stories that I’m passionate about is an amazing thing. The fact that I don’t have to sit at home and wait for the next offer is something that makes me feel empowered. I love doing this, it keeps me alive,” said Gadot, who will soon be seen opposite Netflix spy thriller Heart of Stone.
“I’m not just going to do my own projects, I’m going to continue to work as a paid actress. But the fact that I can go ahead and tell the stories that I’m passionate about – from ideas that I’ve conceived , or from ideas that I find fascinating from people who want to partner with us – it’s an amazing thing.
“[It’s] something I’m so grateful for and I’m definitely going to keep going because it’s worth it. I’m very, very excited and humbly proud,” she concluded.
On December 8, 2022, it was announced that Warner Bros. was no longer advancing with the third Wonder Woman movie proposed by Patty Jenkins – because it didn’t fit the franchise vision of new DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Reports suggested that Jenkins even submitted a draft of the superhero sequel, which was co-written by Geoff Johns, but the duo didn’t go. When Jenkins supposedly chose not to alter the film’s treatment, it was dropped from the release schedule.
While Wonder Woman 3 may not happen, we may well see Gadot appear as the titular Amazonian in other projects. Most recently, the character made an unexpected appearance in the flashhaving already shown up unannounced in Shazam! Fury of the godsAlso.
Directed by Tom Harper, Heart of Stone sees Gadot play Rachel Stone, an intelligence agent who is the only person standing between the global peacekeeping organization she works for and the loss of her most important asset – and most importantly – the most dangerous.
