For less than it costs to spec the cigar humidor glove box option on a Rolls-Royce, you can get yourself into this little EV in China. Wuling’s Mini EV, made in partnership with General Motors, is outselling Tesla’s Model 3 there, and it’s so successful that not only are Chinese producers rapidly coming up with copycat cars, Wuling itself is busy making different versions of the vehicle, including a forthcoming cabriolet and a “long-range” version.

So, can a $5,000 EV really work reliably? We decided to test it out at the link in our bio.

  1. get me a cabriolet STAT! this would be so perfect for Melbourne city driving and parking. I don’t 100% trust Chinese cars just yet, but I’d still rather have one over a Tesla any day.

  2. I am glad to see not everyone is out trying to sell electric cars as luxury but as a solution.

  3. If GM is helping make this why da eff is it not going to be sold in the US? How are we ever going to compete with pricepoints at 25-35k entry level for EVs here, when most cant afford that.

  4. The Economist said that chinese cars will fight climate change, not the Teslas. Sad, but true.

  5. Only if it comes with a cigar humidor box option. Because man, I love my cigar perfectly humidified.

  6. It’s affordable, no long term sleazy above priced contracts from car dealership salesman’s, and no high gas prices to deal with. Finally, Something that Americans working below living wages salaries can afford to get to work, without relying on the underfunded public transportation, that lacks severely against the European transportation department..
