While we’re still waiting for the new MacBook Pro and Mac mini to arrive, Apple gave us a lot of new stuff this week. In a flurry of OS releases, just about every device Apple has made in the past eight years has received a major software update this week, whether you have a new MacBook Air M2 or still keep your iPhone 6s.
iPhone and iPad
iOS 16.1
- Compatible devices: iPhone 8 and later
- Security Patches: 34
- Notable updates: iOS 16.1 is the first major update to iOS 16, which arrived on iPhone in September. It has a few features that the original version didn’t have, including iCloud shared photo library, live action, and green energy charging.
iPadOS 16.1
- Compatible devices: iPad Air 3rd generation or later, iPad 5th generation or later, iPad mini 5th generation or later
- Security Patches: 34
- Notable updates: iPadOS 16.1 is the first release of iPadOS 16 for iPad, so it includes a lot of new features. The biggest change is a new app organizer called Stage Manager that brings desktop-class multitasking to Apple tablets.
