Emran Hashmi’s latest performance is NOT worth watching, complains Namrata Thakker.

A remake of a supernatural movie in Malayalam. Ezra, dybbuk — starring Emran Hashmi and Nikita Datta — neither creepy nor attractive.

The film revolves around a couple, Sam (Hashmi) and Maha (Dutta), who experience paranormal activity in their new home.

To renovate their house, Mahi buys an old wooden box, but as soon as she opens it, an evil spirit enters her.

Mahi starts acting strange and keeps seeing the woman’s ghost when she is alone in the house. She confesses to Sam, but he refuses to believe her.

Soon, Sam has a horrific experience himself, and then he feels that perhaps their house is really haunted.

The couple don’t know the box is the cause, but when Father Gabriel (Denzil Smith) visits them, he recognizes the wooden box and tells Sam it’s a dybbuk.

According to Jewish folklore, the dybbuk is used to capture unsatisfied or unhappy souls.

Gabrielle’s father reveals that Mahi is possessed by a spirit that was in a wooden box. So now with the help of Father Marcus (Manav Kaul), Sam and Father Gabriel decide to rescue Mahi.

The folklore concept would be interesting if the creators paid attention to the script and came up with an intriguing storyline.

But this is hardly the case.

In addition, a horror film relies heavily on good sound effects and visual effects, which unfortunately the film lacks.

The female ghost that appears in the film is very amateurish, as are the creepy scenes.

It seems that the creators were in a hurry to shoot them.

The backstory of the wooden box is so boring.

dybbuk nothing to offer on the plot.

It’s not intimidating or exciting.

Emran is decent, but he has little to chew on.

Nikita Dutta is in perfect order, as are the rest of the actors.

An actor like Manav Kaul could have been given a better written role; his talent is just wasted.

dybbuk can’t keep you hooked to the screens.

Dybbuk is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
