Three years after Halle Bailey was cast in live-action The little Mermaid‘s Ariel, Walt Disney Studios has finally unveiled a first look at the next movie 2023 during Expo D23 earlier this month. The little Mermaid trailer showed Bailey as a first-time Disney princess, teasing her look for the film and her amazing voice. Since its release, the film has suffered racist backlash, prompting soon White as snow get Rachel Zegler to give an answer.
Rachel Zegler set to play Snow White in live-action version of Disney Princess movie in 2024 facing Gal Gadot’s “intimidating” Evil Queen. When the West Side Story The breakout star was recently dragged into a tweet including more backlash for Halle Bailey, she came to her defense. Check this:

On Twitter, one user shared that he thinks Rachel Zegler is a “good fit” for White as snow due to his resemblance to the animated character. However, he called Halle Bailey “#NotMyAriel” because she doesn’t look like the cartoon character from the 1989 classic. He said she could play Ariel on Broadway, but not in a movie. Zegler responded by sharing that while he’s not supporting Bailey “who’s the perfect Ariel,” he’s not supporting any of the Disney Princesses.
Zegler is half Colombian and half Polish, so her casting as Snow White isn’t necessarily traditional for the character either. However, the actress doesn’t come close to Halle Bailey’s hatred for being a Black Ariel. Since the trailer’s release, Bailey has received a lot of flack from Disney fans who aren’t ready to accept that a fantasy character and Disney princess like Ariel could be a race other than white.
However, on the other hand, for all the hate Halle Bailey received as a star of The little Mermaid, there have already been positives that have also come out of the cast. For example, a number of parents took to social media to share the reaction of their black children to her singing “Part Of Your World”. As the videos showed, young girls already feel empowered and represented on screen by the differently portrayed Disney Princess for live action. Bailey shared this she got a ton of these reactions and felt so “moving” seeing the first support for the film.
Plus, the original Ariel, Jodi Benson, in the same way SplashDaryl Hannah, the mermaid actress of, came to defend Halle Bailey. Despite some racist responses to the live action The little Mermaidthe actress and the movie have a ton of people behind her and the movie. The little Mermaid is set to hit theaters on May 26, 2023 and Rachel Zegler’s White as snow will follow on March 22, 2024.
