Many fans missed Michael Peña’s Luis and his legendary recaps in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but director Peyton Reed says no version of the latest MCU movie has him.

Talk to THR, Reed shared that the reason Luis wasn’t in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was simply because the team knew they were going to enter the Quantum Realm early and introduce many new characters there.

“There were no versions of this film [with Luis]”, Reed said. “There are a lot of characters in the movie. We obviously have our Lang, van Dyne, and Pym family, but we also introduced Kang, MODOK, and all of our Freedom Fighter characters. So we had to make decisions early on about what stories we could tell and what stories we couldn’t tell.

“I love these characters. They were really, really fun and part of the Lang family, but as we got more and more into [development] and knew we wanted to bring the family to the Quantum Realm pretty early in the movie, it just didn’t make sense [to include Luis and co.].”

This reasoning also seems to extend to David Dastmalchian’s Kurt, TI’s Dave, Judy Greer’s Maggie, and Bobby Cannavale’s Paxton, even though they appeared in the previous two Ant-Man movies. Well, Dastmalchian did indeed return for Quantumania, but as a Veb freedom fighter.

In our Ant-Man and the Wasp review: Quantumania, we said it “has just enough entertaining moments and a heartfelt family history, plus knockout performances in Michelle Pfeiffer’s Janet van Dyne and Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror, to make up for its more understated aspects.” developed.”
