Adipurush is NOT a Ramayan – Rediff.com Movies

A blatant mockery of the great religious epic Adipurush shows the worst side of today’s Bollywood, explained Rediff.com Reader Sumeet Nadkarni.

Lord Ram in eternal rage mode.

Sita Mata lacks purity and innocence.

Lord Hanuman revels in Bombaiyya slang.

The mighty Raavan without a crown or throne hammers like an ironsmith in one scene.

A shirtless Indrajeet with a tattooed body that appears like a cross between Marvel’s Quicksilver and DC’s Flash.

guys, is this a joke?

Is it a parody?

Is it even a movie?

whatever it is Adipurush is NOT the Ramayan. It just can’t be.

A blatant mockery of the great religious epic, this film shows the worst of contemporary Bollywood, which has been creatively bankrupt of late.

I had loved Om Raut’s Tanhaji: The unsung warrior (2020) and of course eagerly awaited his interpretation of Ramayan. But Adipurush was a painful observation.

It really saddens and hurts to see the poor execution in everything from the visual effects to the dialogue to the harrowing animated demons jumping in your face in 3D.

The dark color palette that complements the supposedly glittering ‘Sone Ki Lanka‘ makes one wonder if this Raavan lives here in another universe. Asgard, probably!!

The only saving grace (if you can call it that) is Ajay Atul’s scintillating score, with “Jai Shri Ram” chants bringing the action to a reasonable level.

Prabhas, undoubtedly a brilliant actor, takes on his role Baahubali Trade while playing Lord Ram. It lacks the serene and calm composure that one associates with God. Not his fault, the script doesn’t offer any wiggle room.

Kriti Sanon is beautiful but lacks the purity and sanctity of Mata Sita.

Saif could be said to have performed well if his character was Alauddin Khilji and not Raavan.

Devdatta Nage, another fantastic actor, is destined to play Lord Hanuman by saying lines like “Tere baap ki…‘ Oh please!!

Sunny Singh becomes an extra as Laxman.

I can go on ranting, but frankly it will be a futile exercise.

bollywood ka “Funda” is crystal clear these days. Just collect the cash on the first weekend and then sell the film on OTT to reap the profit and keep going.

Creativity or aesthetics are damned!!

Ramanand Sagar TV series ramayan (1987) is still remembered and revered after three decades.

Adipurush will be forgotten by next Friday. Or already????!!!
