Latest Technology News: Where did Oppenheimer “miss the mark”? Here is W

JE Technology Office: The biopic of American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer (the mastermind credited with the first atomic bomb), starring Christopher Nolan, was released in theaters recently. Although the film received a positive response from fans of Nolan and several others, it failed to impress one of the major faces in the tech world – Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI and Elon Musk, owner of Twitter (now X).

Altman recently added that he expects the film to inspire a generation of young people to become physicists. But he failed to do so. Elon Musk joined the chat and added, “Indeed.” Musk’s reaction garnered over three lakh views and 4,000 likes.

Altman tweeted, “I was hoping Oppenheimer’s movie would inspire a generation of kids to become physicists, but it really missed the mark.” He further said, “Let’s get this movie made!” According to him, the Social Network film succeeded in inspiring startup founders. As of this writing, the tweet has garnered over 6.5 million views, 11,000 likes+, and over 650 retweets.

The CEO’s response sparked a debate around the effectiveness of social media and Oppenheimer to inspire viewers. While some agree with the tech bosses, others have opposing views. “I haven’t watched Oppenheimer yet, but I can definitely say that The Social Network was the first trigger for my interest in entrepreneurship,” said one user. But, another user tweeted: “The social network is an unfortunately brilliant representation of how innovative people can act in selfish and harmful ways and keep moving forward.”
