Seattle Duty Police Officer Kevin Dave rammed Jaahnavi Kandula, an Indian student studying on the campus of Northeastern Universitys in Seattle on January 23. The latest body camera footage captures the exact moment of the fatal accident as well as the reaction of the policeman who was driving the car.

Footage showed the 23-year-old Northeastern University graduate student crossing the road at a designated crosswalk when a high-speed car hit her. The visuals also revealed that the cop failed to deploy his siren to warn others of the urgent nature of the situation.
At the time of the crash, Officer Kevin Dave was responding to a “high priority” call and driving his car at 74mph. Speed limits at the intersection of Dexter Avenue North and Thomas Street are 25 and 20 mph respectively.
Immediately after the crash, body camera video showed the officer performing CPR on Kandula. I messed up, Dave was heard saying after the fatal incident at the intersection of Dexter Avenue North and Thomas Street.
The lights were on. I was chirping the sirens that she was in the crosswalk. She saw me, she started running across the crosswalk. Slammed on my breaks. Started staying where she should before crossing, the cop can be heard saying to the answering officer.
The video shared by the outlet did not include the moment Dave’s car hit the young woman, out of respect for the Kandulas family.
Kandula, a native of Bengaluru, came to Seattle in 2021 to earn a master’s degree at Northeastern University. She was pursuing a master of science degree in information systems at the College of Engineering and was due to graduate in December.
