Vladimir Putin envisages a “final solution” for Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said, as he challenged Israel over its failure to impose sanctions on Russia.

In a video link address to the Knesset, Mr Zelensky – who is Jewish – compared the situation in Ukraine to the Nazi extermination of Jews.

He said: “The Russians use the terminology of the Nazi party, want to destroy everything.

“The Nazis called this ‘the final solution’ to the Jewish question. And now … in Moscow … they’re using those words, ‘the final solution’. But now it’s directed against us and the Ukrainian question.”

This comes as civilians in Mariupol are reportedly being rounded up by Russians and sent to filtration camps.

There are currently 130,000 civilians left in Mariupol at risk of being abducted.

On Sunday, Russia gave Ukraine until 5am to surrender Mariupol – and if it did, residents in Mariupol would be allowed to leave the city.
