Those arrested were identified by police as Shaji, 45, and Ahadh, 38. Shaji is the first defendant in the case and Ahadh is the second defendant.
Those arrested were the dead woman’s brothers-in-law, and they were arrested at the train station on their way back from Chennai to surrender.
Earlier on Monday, a woman, Raheena, 34, the fourth defendant in the case was arrested. The third defendant in the case, Muhsin, is still at large and the police are looking for him. Shaji, Ahadh and Muhsin were brothers of Leela Mani’s late husband and the murder involved a dispute over the division of ancestral property.
The accused held Leela Mani and her relative Sarasu in a room in his house and assaulted them with an iron bar. Leela Mani, 54, later succumbed to her injuries and Sarasu is still undergoing treatment.
