Latest Technology News: The very first M3 Macs could arrive this year, but it won’t be M
Apple’s development for the M3 chip appears to be in full swing, as previous reports claimed that M3-powered Macs could see the light of day in October this year. Now, another report hints at possible models that could be launched. The move to Apple Silicon was a major gamble for the Cupertino-based company, but this one seems to have paid off as its internal chipsets offer an excellent balance of power and efficiency.
On July 17, Bloombergs Mark Gurman, in his newsletter. revealed that Apple plans to switch to its M3 chip later this year with the launch of new Macs. Now the reporter has shed light on the finer details.
Macs powered by Apple M3
In his last Power-Up Bulletin (via MacRumors), Gurman claimed that while M3-powered Macs may be introduced in October this year, those models are unlikely to include the M3 Mac Mini or the high-end MacBook Pro.
I do not know which
laptop to buy?
Gurman said he’s certain an M3 version of the Mac mini will eventually arrive, pointing out that the Mac Mini or 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros won’t be part of the first wave of Mac M3s debuting this year. He also noted that the M2-powered Mac Mini came out two years after the M1 version launched, which could mean that Apple doesn’t think these models need a yearly refresh.
Both of these machines could be powered by the M3 Pro and M3 Max chips and a launch before the end of 2024 is not expected, according to Gurman.
What M3 Macs could come out?
According to Gurman, Apple plans to introduce the M3 SoC starting with the upcoming iMac, 13-inch MacBook Air, and 13-inch MacBook Pro. However, high-end MacBook Pros aren’t expected to make the jump just yet. The M3 chip might be on the way, and we might see the new Macs in October, shortly after Apples Fall event.
Along with Macs, a new M3 SoC-powered iPad is also expected, starting with iPad Pros with OLED displays that could arrive next year. While Gurman also hinted at an iPad Air with upgraded specs in the works, little is known about the launch schedule.
