Although Julie Andrews and Blake Edwards have had a long and fruitful partnership, that doesn’t mean it’s just raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Edwards particularly struggled with health issues throughout the marriage, including chronic fatigue syndrome, according to Closer Weekly. “Blake hasn’t been easy, but Julie has been very patient with him,” co-worker Kenny Solms told Closer Weekly.. They also struggled to balance work and family life. “There were times when we thought we just weren’t going to make it, but we were determined, and so far we have,” Edwards said (via Lip). Their relationship didn’t end until Edwards died of pneumonia in 2010, when he was 88, according to Closer Weekly.

Still, Edwards lingered in Andrews’ heart. She told ‘Good Morning Britain’ in 2015 that she was still struggling to come to terms with her loss. “There are days when it’s perfectly wonderful and I’m on my own and then it’s suddenly – you sink in the middle of your belly and you think ‘oh my God, I wish he were here “,” she said (via the Daily mail). Then, she ended her reflection on a more positive note: “But he’s kind of, I think we still carry that love.” In the end, Andrews and Edwards shared a love as enduring as their best films.
