Golden Globe winner Taron Egerton told the Chief Marvel Cinematic Universe that he would like to be the next Wolverine. And it made us realize that Egerton and the OG Wolverine, Hugh Jackman had pretty comparable careers...

There’s general consensus that Hugh Jackman played popular Marvel Comics character James ‘Logan’ Howlett, aka Wolverine, to perfection in Fox’s x-men film series.

However, Jackman repeatedly stated that after seventeen years he would not play Wolverine again; which means it’s inevitable that another actor will one day take on the mantle of Wolverine.

And according to the New York TimesTaron Egerton is extremely keen to take on the role.

The actor, best known for the Kingsman movies and Rocketmansaid he even sat down with Kevin Feige — the president of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) production company Marvel Studios — to discuss the possibility of him playing Wolverine in the MCU.

“I would be excited but also apprehensive because Hugh [Jackman] is so associated with the role that I would wonder if it would be very difficult for someone else to do it. But I hope that if it happens, they will give me a chance.

Egerton could be a great choice considering he and Jackman have had very similar careers. They both appeared in TV crime drama series – Jackman in Correlli and Egerton in lewis – and in stage productions – Jackman in The beauty and the Beast and Egerton in The Last of the Haussmans — before landing their respective breakthrough roles.

The breakthrough role of Jackman, who was Wolverine in the first x-men movie, was (obviously) based on comic books and Egerton’s breakthrough role, Eggsy in Kingsman: The Secret Servicewas also based on a popular comic book series.

Not to mention that Jackman and Egerton have won critical acclaim for performing iconic and flamboyant singers; Jackman won a Tony for playing Peter Allen in The boy from Oz and Egerton won a Golden Globe for playing Elton John in Rocketman.

Also, if Egerton chose to play Wolverine in the future, that means no actor who played Wolverine shared the character’s Canadian origins – in the comics, James ‘Logan’ Howlett/Wolverine was born and grew up in Canada while Jackman is Australian and Egerton is Welsh.

There’s no denying that Egerton is a fantastic actor, but Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine left some big shoes to fill. Also, Egerton seems to be extremely busy right now with his new series. Black bird and the fourth to come Kingsman film; maybe he’ll be too busy to commit to a busy MCU schedule… Alas, only time (and Feige when he’s ready) will tell.
