Looks like Google is working on a major overhaul Assistant at a glance a widget on Android devices (except Pixel) that brings the Material You aesthetic to this feature. This update will allow it to match a set of other widgets that have received the same changes.

Thanks to 9in Google, we have an idea of what it will look like when it’s ready for the public, but the update is currently in testing and not quite ready. From the widget menu, we can see that there can be an oval shape outlining the information presented in the widget. Currently, Assistant At a Glance is completely transparent and you cannot configure this setting. It looks like more customization will be allowed after the update, which makes sense considering that’s the whole point of Material You.

I have to say, I’m surprised it took Google so long to update Brief. It’s always better late than never, but given the push Google has given to widgets in the last two versions of Android, At a Glance definitely felt left out. As a Pixel user, I’d also like to disable it entirely on the desktop. I wink.

We’ll be patiently waiting for this updated look to arrive.
