Sony introduced the WF-1000XM5 Truly Wireless Headphones with Active Noise Cancellation, Dynamic Driver X, DNN call quality enhancement and 12 hour battery life. Priced at $299, the headphones are currently available in the US, with no confirmation of availability in India.

Sony has unveiled its latest offering in the true wireless (TWS) stereo earphone segment, the Sony WF-1000XM5. These wireless headphones are equipped with Sony’s proprietary V2 built-in processor and QN2e noise-canceling processor, making them capable of active noise cancellation (ANC). The highlight of the WF-1000XM5 headphones is the new Dynamic Driver X, which, together with Deep Neural Network (DNN) processing, improves call quality.


To ensure a comfortable fit for users, Sony said it offers ear tips in four sizes made from polyurethane foam. On a full charge, the headphones provide up to 12 hours of battery life with regular use and support both wired and wireless charging options.

For now, the headphones are available in the US, the Sony WF-1000XM5 headphones are priced at $299 (approximately Rs. 24,447). They are currently available for pre-order in black and silver colors via the Sony US online store and will officially release in August. However, there is no confirmation on the release date for India yet.

Compared to its predecessor, the Sony WF-1000XM4, the WF-1000XM5 brings noticeable improvements in sound quality, noise cancellation and call performance. This is made possible by the Sony Integrated Processor V2 chip and QN2e processors, which improve ANC capabilities.

The WF-1000XM5 supports 24-bit audio processing and incorporates DSEE Extreme upconversion technology. It also offers multiple audio codecs, including Sony’s SBC, AAC, and LDAC for high-resolution wireless audio streaming.

One of the standout features is deep neural network (DNN) processing, combined with bone conduction sensors, which dramatically improves call quality even in a noisy environment.

Other notable features include Speak to Chat, adaptive sound control, multipoint connection, Fast Pair, Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, and support for Google and Alexa voice assistants.

The headphones are IPX4 rated for splash resistance, making them suitable for use during workouts or in light rain. The charging case is compact, measuring 64.6 x 40.0 x 26.5mm and weighing 39g, while each earbud weighs 5.9g.
