Latest Kerala Local News: Rain and strong wind cause massive damage in Kozhikode’
Kozhikode: Life in the hilly areas of the district was affected by torrential rains and strong winds which caused extensive damage.
Overnight rain and gusts, which accelerated during the day, uprooted many trees, causing power outages.
Trees were uprooted in Cherumoth and Chiyyour in Nadapuram. A house was damaged after a coconut tree collapsed there in Vellour. Firefighters and the state Disaster Management Authority are working together to remove the collapsed trees.

The eastern hilly area of the district – Mukkom, Karassery, Thamarassery – continued to receive intermittent heavy rains and strong winds.
Flooding of the ventilation pipe bridge on Cherupuzha in Vallathayipara, near Karassery, caused traffic jams.
Kerala is expected to experience heavy rain till July 26 under the influence of a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. Kozhikode and several districts were placed under yellow alert on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Heavy rainfall ranging from 64.5mm to 115.5mm is expected in these districts.
