Chandy Oommen is set to succeed Oommen Chandy: Cherian Philip

Meanwhile, Congress Leader Cherian Philip has said Chandy Oommen, son of the late Congress leader, should succeed him in Puthuppally. Talk to Manorama Newshe noted that Chandy Oommen, 38, started his political career at a young age.

In a Facebook post, Philip said Chandy Oommen was qualified in every way to replace the late Congress leader because he understood the culture of Congress, how his father worked and became the Youth Congress leader at the national and state level through his own hard work and ability.

Chandy Oommen had also walked several miles barefoot in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, Philip said. Regarding Achu Oommen, he said that she left active politics after her marriage and that her sister was politically aware from an early age. Therefore, if they decide to enter politics, at a time when women have opportunities in this field, the Congress party and its workers will be ready to welcome them.

Meanwhile, in his post, Philip also said that Chandy is not in favor of his children being part of active politics and is of the opinion that one family member is enough.

The candidate will be announced soon: K Muraleedharan

Congress leader and MP K Muraleedharan told Kozhikode that once a by-election is announced for Puthuppally’s seat, the party’s candidate will be decided immediately and there will be no arguments or disputes over the selection.

When asked by reporters if the nominee would be a member of Chandy’s family, as many members of Congress suggested, Muraleedharan said the party would consider everything when making its decision.

PK Kunhalikutty, the National General Secretary of the All India Muslim Union League (IUML), also said there would be no problem in deciding a candidate for the by-election.

“Puthuppally and Kerala deserve the continuity of the same standards set by Oommen Chandy. The Congress party will decide who should represent the constituency and there will be no problem with that decision. There will be no dispute over the candidate selected by the party,” he said. Oommen Chandy, who served as Kerala’s two-time chief minister, breathed his last at a private hospital in Bangalore on Tuesday. His end came while he was undergoing treatment for cancer, party sources said. He was 79 years old.
