If you’re looking to purchase one of the new 3rd generation Apple TV 4K boxes, we recommend choosing the 128GB model. Not because of storage space – 64GB is more than enough when streaming apps are so small and gaming on Apple TV is so mediocre – but because the 64GB model lacks Ethernet and Thread. These things are worth paying $20 for and doubling the amount of storage whether you need it or not.
But it looks like even if you pay a little more for the extra storage, you Something like not yet understood. As FlatpanelsHD first spotted in their review, a bug in tvOS 16.1 prevents new apps from being installed when storage usage exceeds 64GB. If you have a 128 GB model, you can fill it with apps and games until you exceed 64 GB, at which point you will get an error: “The application cannot be installed because there is not enough space. Uninstall one or more apps, or manage your storage in settings.” The site says that this bug has not been fixed in the latest tvOS 16.2 beta.
We backed up the site’s results by loading our 128GB Apple TV 4K with the biggest games we could find until we hit the 64GB mark. (Also, it’s not easy to see how much total space you’ve used on your Apple TV. A third-party app is required unless you want to manually add app sizes in Settings > General > Storage Management.) Of course, while we had more than 64 GB filled, we received an error during installation Any new application of any size.

There’s a little workaround if you’re really stuck. You can queue downloads when they are less than 64 GB and they will be completed, which can cause the total storage used to go well over that limit. The error only appears when you initiate a new download when the memory is over the 64GB mark.
We still recommend the 128GB model as storage was never the goal of the extra $20, and extra network support is, and most users aren’t likely to experience this issue anytime soon. However, this is a rather egregious bug and Apple should fix it quickly. We expect tvOS 16.2 to be released sometime in December, so there’s still plenty of time for Apple to make fixes.
