Latest World News: Policeman martyred in KP Khyber Agen suicide bombing
An official was killed in a suicide bombing inside a mosque in the Jamrud district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwas Khyber agency on Tuesday, police said.
Ashfaq Anwar, Peshawar Capital Police Officer (CCPO), said Dawn.com this additional police station officer (SHO) Adnan Afridi was part of the police group pursuing the suspected suicide bomber and was martyred in the blast.
He said the police team reached the area after receiving information about the presence of suspicious people. The suspects, he said, ran upon seeing the police.
They entered the mosque during the chase where Additional SHO Adnan Afridi was martyred, CCPO said, adding that one of the suicide bomber’s associates was arrested.
The official further stated Dawn.com that the mosque was not the target of an attack and that an investigation was underway to determine the target.
Separately, local police chief Gul Wali said Dawn.com that the residents of the neighborhood had alerted the police to the presence of suspicious people.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari condemned the incident and paid tribute to the martyred policeman.

Adnan Afridi sacrificed his life to destroy the evil designs of terrorists, he said.
The foreign minister said the bravery of the martyrs was a beacon for the nation.
Lawyer Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel, the acting provincial information minister, also condemned the blast and expressed regret for the martyrdom of the police.
Offering his condolences to the Afridis family, he said the government stood with the family of the martyrs in their time of mourning.
The sacrifices of the police will not be in vain. The disbelievers and the enemies of peace will be dealt with rigorously.
This is the second major terrorist attack reported in Khyber in less than a week.
On Thursday, two suicide bombers were intercepted by police at the entrance to the tehsil headquarters complex and the police station adjacent to the Bara Bazaar at Khyber Agency.
Police said they engaged the suicide bombers in a shootout, which left one attacker dead, while the other blew himself up. Part of the building collapsed under the impact of the explosion.
Three police officers were martyred and 10 others, including three civilians, injured.
The attacks come and an upsurge in terrorist activity in Pakistan, particularly in KP and Balochistan, after the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended its ceasefire with the government in November last year.
A report released this month by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies think tank says the first half of the current year has witnessed a steady and alarming increase in terrorist and suicide attacks, which have claimed the lives of 389 people across the country.
At a press conference in June, Director General of Inter-Agency Public Relations, Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, said security forces had carried out 13,619 intelligence operations this year in which 1,172 terrorists had been killed or arrested.
Every day, more than 77 operations are carried out by the armed forces, police, intelligence agencies and other law enforcement agencies to eliminate the threat of terrorism, he said.
DG Sharif added that 95 soldiers embraced martyrdom in these operations.
