The launch of Nothing Phone (1) was not entirely successful. The awkward hype that led up to this, knowing it could be a mid-range phone, ended at the last minute, “Oh, by the way, sorry, USA guys!” The revelation was disgusting. In the end, we got an iPhone doppelgänger with a semi-unique backlighting system, a clean Android build, and a decent, underwhelming price.

If anything, the launch of the phone (1) didn’t necessarily make us ask for more from a new tech company, but wondered if they would actually go for it with a follow-up device. Over the past few weeks, Nothing has at least said it all right about not only bringing a premium phone to the world, but it also seems poised to enter the US market.

Nothing at MWC today confirmed that their phone (2) will be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Series chipset. They didn’t say which version of the 8-series chipset (Gen 1 or Gen 2?), but as long as we’re talking about a chip from this Qualcomm family, it should provide enough power.

And look, if Nothing could supply a phone with a high performance chip and US carrier support, we’d be interested. We love their software approach, the fact that the old OxygenOS team now provides software support, and their hardware design is very different from the rest of the Android players (in a good way). Nothing could give us an alternative to Samsung and Google, which the Android space desperately needs.

Things are going to get incredibly annoying in the hype department around this phone (2), but try to stick with us as we follow the story. We need a new variant of the phone, and that’s pretty much all we have.
