Google used to be very good at providing distribution numbers for Android. We would see a pie chart breaking down a piece of the pie for each OS version. It was a great way for us to see how well new versions of Android are being implemented. Thanks to the numbers calculated up downwe have an update on how Android versions are doing.

First, a note about up down for those who don’t know. It is a third party Android app store with over 130 million monthly active users worldwide. It is from these users that the following data was collected, so thanks to these users. With that done, let’s dive into the data.

Most used Android version

Among up down of users, Android 11 takes the top spot with 29.5% of the pie. It is followed by Android 10 with 25.2%. If you are looking for the latest version of Android i.e. Android 12, it is currently installed on only 2.6% of user devices. Heck, even Oreo is above Android 12. Although disappointing, it’s not surprising. This has always been the history of Android.

Device manufacturer and browser

up down also provided information about the manufacturer of its users’ devices and the most commonly used browser. As shown, we have the South Korean Samsung with over 31% of the market, followed by the Chinese Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo and Vivo. Again, this is not surprising since the majority of the service’s users are presumably outside the US.

The browsers used are also detailed. According to the data, Chrome is the most used browser with 83% of the pie. This is followed by the standard Samsung browser with just 5%. It’s pure dominance right there that could actually lead to Droid Life taking a poll of our own readers.

If there’s one takeaway from this data, it’s that Android OS adoption is still extremely slow. It’s a bummer, but we’re certainly used to it by now.
