What happens when you bring together the best actors and directors to make a movie?

It either becomes a masterpiece or you end up disappointed.

The ambitious project of Mani Ratnam Navaras has all the ingredients you need to prepare a gourmet meal. But when they come together, one dish takes over the other, leaving you partly satisfied, partly hungry.

Navaras (meaning “nine emotions”) is an anthology of nine Tamil films covering the nine emotions and directed by different directors.

First film Edhiri directed by Bejoy Nambiar in which Dhina (played by Vijay Setupati) kills an elderly man (Prakash Raj) because he believes the latter’s actions led his younger brother to commit suicide.

Velousami (Yogi Babu) tells the fascinating story of how stupid accidents ruined his academic life but also propelled him to become a successful comedian.

Nedumudi Venu as a typical headmaster along with young Velusa provides enough comic relief in this nostalgia-fuelled drama.

Project Agni, directed by Kartik Naren, is a sci-fi story in which a genius (Arvind Swami) discovers a potentially dangerous key that links the past, present and future, blurring the lines of realism. His invention, the Drifter, helps him travel to the past, but ends up causing a tiny glitch, forcing him to rethink his plans for the present and future.

It’s an exciting story, but not exactly impressive.

next movie Payasam about a brahmin (Deli Ganesha) who is jealous of his nephew’s success and the heinous act he does at the wedding.

The plot is well thought out and aptly built, but not impressive.

Kartik Subbaraj World features a preachy plot in the midst of the Sri Lankan civil war in which a gunman risks his life to save the life of a dog from an army-occupied village.

Gautam Menon as the leader of the group is so-so.

Blame it on a bad Sri Lankan accent or a pure execution of an idea, but the film didn’t resonate.

In sharp contrast, Rudramdirected by Arvind Swami, tells a story that not only correctly conveys the emotions it is trying to convey, but also sincerely reveals the various aspects of anger.

The story moves between past and present, keeping the viewer in interaction with the characters.

In a similar way, Inmaipresented by Rathindran R. Prasad is a thriller about a wealthy woman with a confusing past who has a charming visitor.

The story is like a puzzle that develops and grows on you.

The powerful backstory is interrupted by Parvati’s accent, which leaves a lot to be desired, but Siddharth is a real treat to watch.

next segment Tuninda Pinn about an officer who was ambushed by a rebel.

It tells about courage and valor presented from two different points of view, directed by Sarjun K.M.

The idea of ​​courage is well defined, but somehow when you watch the movie, I feel like it deserves more depth and more screen time.

They say you save the best for last.

But Gautam Menon Guitar Cambi Mele Nindru seems too clichéd, relying on an exaggerated plot.

How many other ways can it be shown that the hero’s first love, almost too beautiful and perfect, will not have a happy ending?
