PARIS — Natalie Portman could win an award at the next Cannes film festivalbut she will certainly give one.
The ‘Thor’ and ‘Black Swan’ star, who will be in competition for “May December” by Todd Haynes, in which she plays with Julianne Moore, was named godmother of the Trophy Chopardwhich spotlights two talents who made successful debuts.
Choosing Portman as godmother not only recognizes a “film legend” whose career spans nearly three decades, multiple acting accolades as well as directing and producing, but also “her commitment as a woman with strong convictions “, according Chopard co-president and artistic director Caroline Scheufele.

The female and male winners of the year will be selected by the Chopard Trophy Academy, made up of former winners as well as the godmothers and godfathers of previous editions.
