The internet is dying to see what all the hype around Sam Levinson (aka the creator of Euphoria) and his latest project, idol, is all about – and Cannes Film Festival goers just got their first look at the controversial show. Lily Rose Depp, who plays the ingenuous role of Jocelyn, attended the Cannes premiere of HBO series on May 23 and continued her Chanel streak in a mini dress with immaculate pop star vibes.
Lily Rose Depp has worn Chanel to many events (like the iconic Chanel dress from fall 1994, beloved by Tiktok, which she wore for the 2019 met gala) and she continued to show her love for her favorite brand for that of the idol first. The actress looked like a vintage dream in a black sequin covered mini dress, with a blue satin camellia flower embellishing the strapless neckline. Small buttons dotted the front of her dress leading to a subtle black bow around her waist.
Lily wore sheer, paper-thin gloves that went past her elbows, and sheer black tights under her dress.
For the afterparty, Lily changed into another Chanel glitter number. The mini dress from the brand’s latest Resort 2023 collection was adorned with subtle, multicolored sequins, along with thick black straps and a straight neckline.
Lily opted to keep her black sheer tights and black heels from her previous look, and pulled her wavy blonde hair out of the loose bun it was in before..
The idol received a five-minute standing ovation at Cannes, but the show received mixed reviews from wider audiences. Critics commented on the show’s use of explicit material and shock factor throughout intended to portray the misogynistic side of the pop industry, while others praised Levinson’s stylistic choices. The idol currently has a 9% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
When it comes to wardrobe, we think Lily deserves a 100% on her red carpet outfit. If you’re shopping for LBDs and sequin minis but aren’t on a Chanel budget, keep scrolling to see our favorite similar dresses inspired by Lily Rose Depp’s red carpet style.
