The Sony WF-1000XM5 True Wireless Stereo (TWS) headphones were launched by the company on Monday. The wireless headset features the company’s latest V2 integrated processor, combined with the QN2e noise-canceling processor. They support active noise cancellation (ANC). The Sony WF-1000XM5 headphones feature the new Dynamic Driver X and offer Deep Neural Network (DNN) processing support for improved call quality. The ear tips come in four sizes and are made of a polyurethane foam material, according to the company. They’re supposed to offer up to 12 hours of battery life with general use and support both wired and wireless charging.

Sony WF-1000XM5 price and availability

The Sony WF-1000XM5 is priced at $299 (around Rs. 24,447). They are currently listed on the Sony US Online Store in black and silver color options. They can be pre-ordered and will go on sale in August. There is currently no word from the company on when these headphones will launch in India.

These wireless headphones will compete with Apple’s current-generation AirPods Pro 2 and other high-end options in the same price segment.

Sony WF-1000XM5 Specifications and Features

The recently announced Sony WF-1000XM5 headphones were launched as the successor to the Sony WF-1000XM4 which was launched globally in 2021. The latest TWS headphones come with several upgrades over their predecessor including improved sound, noise cancellation and better call quality. The wireless headphones are equipped with the Sony Integrated Processor V2 chip and QN2e processors for improved ANC performance.

Additionally, the Sony WF-1000XM5 headphones are equipped with the company’s Dynamic Driver X and offer 24-bit audio processing, DSEE Extreme upscaling technology. In addition to SBC and AAC audio codecs, it also supports Sony’s LDAC codec for high-resolution wireless audio streaming.

According to Sony, the deep neural network (DNN) processing and bone conduction sensors of the new WF-1000XM5 headphones will deliver improved call quality even in environments with loud ambient sounds.

The headphones also support Speak to Chat functionality, adaptive sound control, multipoint connection, Fast Pair, Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity and support for Google and Alexa voice assistants.

Sony claims the WF-100XM5 earphones offer up to 12 hours of battery life with general use, which drops to 8 hours with ANC on. They can be charged with a USB Type-C cable or wirelessly.

The Sony WF-1000XM5 has an IPX4 rating for splash resistance. The charging case measures 64.6 x 40.0 x 26.5mm and weighs 39g while each earbud weighs 5.9g.
