If the 45mm Apple Watch Series 7 is still too small for your wrist, you might be in luck: a new report claims that Apple is preparing to release an even larger Series 8 model this fall.
Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants claims that Apple will release a 1.99-inch (5cm) Apple Watch Series 8 model alongside 41mm and 45mm options. This would give the Apple Watch a 50mm option, which is much larger than any previously released watch:
- Original Apple Watch: 38 mm, 42 mm
- Apple Watch Series 4: 40mm, 44mm
- Apple Watch Series 7: 41mm, 45mm
- Apple Watch Series 8: 41mm, 45mm, 50mm
The 50mm Apple Watch will be the biggest jump in screen size for the Apple Watch, which previously only increased by 1 or 2mm. The new watch could cost $449 for the GPS model, based on current Apple Watch Series 7 prices. The 41mm model starts at $399, while the 45mm model starts at $429.
Rumor has it that this fall, Apple will release a new “protected” model designed for extreme athletes. It’s not yet clear if this larger model will have a new shell and beefed up cushioning, or if Apple will offer options for all three models.
There are rumors that the Series 8 watch may have a new “flat” design. The new display could also be brighter than the Apple Watch Series 7. Other rumored features coming to the Apple Watch Series 8 include a new temperature sensor that can detect when a user has a fever.
The new Apple Watch will most likely be unveiled in September at the iPhone 14 event. For more information and all the latest Apple Watch rumors, read our Apple Watch 8 guide.
