Latest Kerala Local News: KCBC calls for Manipur CM’s resignation – IndiaTimes
KCBC said proactive action should be taken against rioters who insulted Indian women in front of the world and Singh saying there are hundreds of similar cases was an insult to politicians.
The statement released by KCBC spokesman Fr Jacob Palackappilly said the central government, which should ensure that Indian women are not insulted, should end their inaction and take responsibility. In a democratic country, it is the elected government that should take action to protect law and order, not the courts. The Chief Justice has made it clear that if the government does not act, the Supreme Court will have to intervene. Central state governments have shown a great deal of inaction, KCBC said.
KCBC further said that what was encouraging was that all those who believe in democracy are coming out to condemn the riots in Manipur, which aims to wipe out part of the citizens, and to pressure the government to end the riot and restore peace.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the KCBC family commission, Bishop Paul Antony Mullassery, told Kochi that the developments in Manipur were a stain on the country. The inaction and apathy of those in power is shameful for the people of the country and there should be immediate intervention in the case of Manipur, he said.
Mathruvedi from the Syro Malabar Church also condemned the incidents in Manipur where women were stripped, paraded and gang raped. He said the continued inaction of those in power was insulting and that there should be nationwide protests against this cruelty.
