Kasargod, July 22: Gramalok, a literary program initiated by Sahitya Akademi in association with Badiadka gram panchayat, was held at Samskruthi Bhavan, Badiadka here on Friday 21st July.

Dr. Kasturi Mohan Pai, renowned Konkani author and educator, chaired the program. Young poets Shweta M Pai, Venkatesh Nayak, Roshan DSouza and Stany Bela presented their poems. Melvyn Rodrigues, organizer, Sahitya Akademi Konkani, and D Shankara, member, Badiadka gram panchayat were present.

In his presidential address, Dr Kasturi said: “I am very excited to stand before the Badiadka gram panchayat literary gathering. Through these types of programs, the sahitya akademi is truly committed to encouraging literary encounters in rural areas. The process should continue. I think this is the first program of the academy in Badiadka gram panchayat. From there, a series of programs should be organized and the literary meetings of this panchayat should reach more poetry lovers.

Expressing his gratitude for Gramaloka, Dr Shankara said, “Today the Konkani community of Badiadka gram panchayat is honored by the academy’s Gramalok program. We never thought the akademi would consider our panchayat for their Konkani event. On behalf of the entire Konkani community and the administration of Badiadka gram panchayat, I thank the sahitya akademi and his Konkani advisory board. Similar types of programs should be continued in this region. As a panchayat, we are always ready to provide all the facilities.”

Melvyn Rodrigues developed the concept for Gramalok and hosted dignitaries and poets.
