Mr Mahindra’s throwback photo has racked up thousands of likes and comments.
On Friday, industrialist Anand Mahindra took a walk down memory lane by sharing a picture of himself playing chess while on his honeymoon in Agra. Taking to Twitter, the chairman of the Mahindra Group, known for his active presence on social media platforms, recalled his time posing with a chessboard and revealed that today he is honing his chess skills by playing online.
In the caption of his post, Mr Mahindra referred to the Global Chess League, the first and largest official franchise chess league in the world. “I should have posted this yesterday on #InternationalChessDay! I was often asked during @GCLlive if I play chess myself. So I dug through my scrapbook and found this photo from my honeymoon in Agra,” he tweeted.

Also, in the caption, the Mahindra Group chairman playfully mentioned that the photo didn’t show him performing against a robotic board, but simply posing for his wife’s camera. He even shared that he now opens with the standard move e4 in chess, a change from his past preference for d4.
“No it wasn’t a robotic board I was playing, I was just posing for my wife’s camera! I am trying to hone my skills now online and today I would open with the standard e4 instead of the d4 which I seem to have tried then…” wrote Mr Mahindra.

Her throwback photo has now racked up thousands of likes and comments on the microblogging platform.
“Better late than never! Happy belated #InternationalChessDay! Your honeymoon chess pose is perfect, and we’re all starting somewhere. Keep posing for success, and may every move you make bring you closer to victory!” commented one user. “This is fantastic! Wow and inspiring,” wrote another.
“An extraordinary mix of love and passion for chess!” added a third user. “Good sir, you mentioned because when I saw you here in Dubai, I even doubted whether you were passionate about the game or played it during your school or college days,” a fourth user said.
Mr Mahindra’s tweet garnered over 237,000 views and over 2,700 likes.
