“There’s still a part of me that would rather be a tanned blonde,” the Oscar-winning actress said.

Oscar Winner Julianne Moore once said to look better as a celebrity.

The ‘When You’re Finished Saving the World’ actress revealed she was encouraged to “be prettier” in Hollywood and struggled with her naturally red hair earlier in her career.

“Someone in the film industry said to me, ‘You should try to be prettier.’ I was like, ‘I don’t know if I can,'” Moore said The Times UK. “Obviously ours is a business where there’s a bit of physics involved, but beauty and good looks are subjective.”

She continued, “My red hair made me feel like an outsider growing up. Redheads make up 2% of the world’s population. No one wants to feel out of place, especially as a young child. Now I feel very identified with my hair and my freckles, but there is still a part of me that would rather be a tanned blonde.

Moore considered the phrase “to age gracefully” to be “totally sexistin June 2021 regarding older female stars.

“Is there an unsightly way to grow old? Of course, we have no choice,” Moore said. “Nobody has a choice to grow old, so it’s not a positive or negative thing, it’s just.”

Moore recently completed a film that nods to the cyclical power of aging women, opposite Natalie Portman and Charles Melton in Todd Haynes’ “May December.” According to the official synopsis, 20 years after their notorious tabloid romance took hold of the nation, Gracie Atherton-Yu and her husband Joe (23 years her junior) are preparing for their twin boys to graduate from high school. When Hollywood actress Elizabeth Berry comes to spend time with her family to better understand Gracie, whom she will play in a film, the family dynamic comes undone under the pressure of outside scrutiny. Joe, having never analyzed what happened in his youth, begins to face the reality of life as an empty nest at 36 years old. Moore previously worked with Todd Haynes on the films “Safe”, “Far from Heaven” and “Wonderstruck”.

“When You’re Done Saving the World” is directed by Jesse Eisenberg, co-stars Finn Wolfhard, and premieres from A24 on January 20.
