“Maame” hits US bookstores today, and author Jessica George is celebrating the release of her debut novel by causing a stir in another medium. Delay reports Jenna Bush Hager’s Thousand Voices and Universal International Studios are developing the book into a television series. George is on board to pen the small-screen adaptation with “What I Know About Love” writer Yemi Oyefuwa.

“The novel centers on Maddie, whose life in London involves being the primary caretaker for her father, who has advanced Parkinson’s disease, and caring for his nightmarish boss. When her mother returns from her last trip to Ghana, the acknowledged latecomer jumps at the chance to get out of the family home and start living,” the source sums up.

“When I first read ‘Maame’, Jessica’s voice jumped off the page,” Bush Hager said. “Maddie is such a singular and unique character.”

Other book adaptations on our radar include “Without blood”, a story of revenge and healing, and the “The Water Dancer, a portrait of a man born into bondage and endowed with mysterious power. Angelina Jolie directs the former and Nia DaCosta the latter.
