The horror community has eaten well so far in 2023, with a plethora of impressive films already releasing earlier in the year. You have Overflowing swimming pool, Skinarink, knock on the booth, The Outwatersand more recently, Cry 6.

Cry 6 came out not too long ago, and in the short time that it hit theaters, it has already earned $22 million internationally. Among the actors of Cry 6 is Jenna Ortega, who is quickly establishing herself as one of horror’s new “scream queens.”

During a recent interview with MTV, Ortega and others Cry 6 the actors were asked a few different music-related questions, and one of those questions was “Best song to get chased by Ghostface?”

While some classical musicians are mentioned, Ortega throws one hell of a curveball by mentioning a Deftones song.

What Deftones song is it? Well, according to Ortega (as transcribed by metal hammer):

β€œIt’s kind of a baseline. But it also goes with this movie: Be quiet and drive (away), the song of the Deftones. I feel like they’re just trying to get away, that might be interesting too.

“Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away)” is a song from the band’s 1997 studio album around the fur (and that’s one hell of an awesome choice).

Later in the interview, Ortega is asked which theme song she would choose for her. Shout character. In response, she names both the Beatles’ “She’s Leaving Home” and the Nine inch nails song “The Way Out Is Through” (the latter is a song from the band’s 1999 studio album The fragile).

Given her Deftones and Nine Inch Nails fandom, it would be great to hear what other metal/heavy music she’s into. Cry 6 is currently playing in theaters. Of the horror movies that have been released so far in 2023, which are your favorites?
