Tweet anything on James Gunn or DC Films and you will see it. Passionate fans are fed upThe DC movies that Zack Snyder helped usher in over the past decade are all but forgotten. “Restore the Towards Snyderis a battle cry. “Fire James Gunn” is another. And a third was so ridiculous that it caused Gunn to publicly reveal that he and Snyder had spoken and there are only good vibes there.

Reply to a tweet that was just a photo of Swamp Thing, a fan tweeted a hashtag that read “Sell the Snyderverse to Netflix”. Which is, objectively, hilarious. So much that Gunn replied“Have to say this has to be the wackiest hashtag since 1) Netflix has expressed no such interest (although we have discussed other things) & 2) Zack has expressed no interest & seems to be happy to do what he does (and yes, we’ve talked too).

What did they talk about, asked another fan? “He contacted me to express his support for my choices. He’s a great guy. Again, he seems genuinely content with the massive world-building he’s doing. Gunn replied

So here are the bullet points:

  • James Gunn and Zack Snyder have spoken.
  • Snyder told Gunn he supported Gunn’s choices.
  • Snyder is happy doing his own thing right now (which is rebel moon)
  • Gunn spoke to Netflix about “other things.”

Honestly, I’m most intrigued by that last part. Gunn and his partner Peter Safran were very clear that the new shows they plan to work on will all be for HBO Max. Could Netflix get stuff from Elseworlds? Is it an international agreement? It’s much more interesting than two filmmakers who, let’s not forget, worked together 20 years ago on the remake of dawn of the dead (directed by Snyder, Gunn wrote) talking about their future projects.

As for Snyder world building, Army of the Dead is still a world that’s on the table for him, but the next big thing is Rebel Moon, releases this winter on Netflix. It’s basically Zack Snyder’s star wars.
