No one will blame you for forgetting that Gmail was supposed to get a new package tracking feature. Google announced the change last November, and then I’m not sure if we’ve heard about it again. This week, the Internet found that a new feature has started to roll out, but it has happened quietly and requires you to take manual action to activate it.

As you can see in the screenshot that was posted late last year, when your account was flagged for the new feature, the notification should say that Google can “Track your Gmail packages” using the “allow” buttons. ‘ or ‘not now’. However, this notification may not yet appear on your account, but you can still turn it on manually.

Gmail Packet Tracking

People 9to5Google shared a tip that if you go to your Android phone’s Gmail settings, you can find a box for “Package Tracking”. I was able to see the setting in my personal Gmail account by going to Settings (swipe the sidebar in Gmail, scroll down) and then tapping on each account I wanted to track packages on. If enabled, the box depicted here may be checked.

I note that my GSuite account does not have this option, only my personal Gmail account.

Gmail package tracking option

Since I only enabled this today, I have no idea if this is convenient or not. When it is active, it should show you the shipping estimate from your inbox as well as in related emails. Google says they share “your package tracking numbers with carriers” for this to work, so keep that in mind.

Let’s follow, baby.
